What is Agu Pork?
A rare breed rooted in Okinawa’s native pigs
あぐー豚とは?
沖縄在来種をルーツに持つ希少な豚
Agu pork is a unique Okinawan brand, rooted in the native Ryukyu pig.Though small in size, it’s known for its tender lean meat and rich, sweet fat.
Modern Agu pork is a crossbreed based on native Okinawan pigs, selectively bred to balance exceptional flavor and ease of farming.Ganaha Farm specifically raises the “DB cross,” a combination of Duroc (D) and Berkshire (B) breeds.
With an exceptional balance of meat and fat, it is highly praised by many professional chefs.
The Delicious “White Meat” – Rich Flavor of Fat
The greatest appeal of Agu pork lies in the exceptional quality of its fat.
Compared to regular pork, Agu pork contains higher levels of glutamic acid and amino acids. Its melt-in-your-mouth, sweet fat is often described as being like white fish. It also has lower cholesterol, making it light and easy to enjoy without heaviness.
When used in shabu-shabu, the fat melts into the soup, creating a rich and mellow flavor. It’s truly pork that brings out its own delicious broth.
Ganaha Livestock’s Commitment — “Raising Pigs You Can Eat with Confidence”
The Agu pork used at Ganaha Farm is carefully raised by Ganaha Livestock Co., Ltd. It is a registered brand and a rare delicacy that is not widely available on the market.
Our dedication lies in how we raise them.
・Feed primarily made from barley
・Urukaru (fossilized coral from Yonaguni Island)
・Mugwort, garlic, awamori mash, Orion beer yeast
・Recycled breadcrumbs made from leftover Gushiken bread
Because pigs are sensitive to stress, we keep their barns clean at all times and raise them with love in a spacious, stress-free environment.
“I want to raise pigs that I can feed to my own children and grandchildren with confidence.”
This is the heartfelt belief of the president of Ganaha Livestock.
